February 12, 2017 - Brush Fire
At 10:45 am February 12th MVFD was called in reference to a rapidly spreading fire 1 mile east of Marathon near the old rope-o-matic. Upon arrival MVFD quickly got ahead of the fire to create a containment line to prevent the fire from jumping the train tracks and going out into the adjoining pasture. The fire was then quickly knocked down and mopped up. Responding units were BCSO 2130, Brush 43, Brush 41, Attack 1 and three P.O.V's owned by fellow firefighters and concerned citizens who stopped to help. Thank you Mike Bienski, Andy Lewis, and Will and Burney Drawe for all your help. Upon clearing scene MVFD also responded to two other fires 1 mile east of the original scene and 1/2 mile west of original scene, and quickly suppressed those fires as well. Fires are thought to have been started by a tow chain dragging the ground.
